Our Diapering Plans

Our plans for diapers: Our initial plan was to start out using 7th Generation Newborn diapers for the first 10-14 days while we figured out the whole diapering process and got settled in at home.  After that we had planned to cloth diaper almost exclusively with the exception of more than just day travel.  Well Edith arrived and to our surprise we ended up with at 6lb 11oz baby instead of the 8+ pounder that we had anticipated (Neil and I were both big babies).  This resulted in us having to rethink our diapering plans because all of the cloth diapers that we had were much too large for our little girl. We debated over just sticking with disposables until she was big enough to fit in the cloth diapers that we had or to order a small amount of newborn diapers.

After doing a little research we decided to order a 12 Cloth-eez® Workhorse™ Diapers and two Bummis Super Brite covers. We also received two Bum Genius all-in-one newborn diapers from my parents. The great thing about these diapers fit up until 10-12 pounds which means we will get a lot of use out them since Edith is only around 7 pounds. So for right now we are cloth diapering during the day and using disposables at night for convenience and because we only have 14 cloth diapers which means having to wash them daily otherwise.

Once Edith is big enough we will be using mostly Bummis Prefolds with Super Brite and Super Whisper Wraps, we also have a few different hybrid diapers and an all-in-one (AIO).  Since we have so many prefolds and a good amount of hybrids/AIO we will be cloth diapering even at night once Edith is big enough.  When we do any overnight travel or have a babysitter we will be using 7th Gen disposables again for convenience.
